India Design Mark- Shortlisted entry

It has been a while since the competition has ended. It had slipped my mind to put this up. I had sent this entry and was one among the 8 shortlisted entries at the competition.

View my entry at the India Design Council site under Shortlisted Entries.... just above winner :(

Culture in India is organically interwoven with nature. This can be seen in all aspects of our day-to-day life including occupation, lifestyle and religion. This relationship with nature is apparent in simple products we had, which were conceived from the nature, served its purpose and went back to where it came from. They lived more than one lives, being used for different purposes, which makes it almost spiritual.
A Good product [sustainable, functional, simple, and systemic] can be represented by a visual union of a Mandala, which represents the infinite whole, an organizational structure of life in the Indian context as well as in many other cultures through the world; and the product itself in the form of a dot, exuding power and uniqueness, existing in a system and synergized with the nature.

Black Sun

The time difference between my posts seem to be steadily increasing!
Its just once in a while that some project comes prancing around that does not demand much formality.
The time it spends with you is short but intense and fully engulfing.

One such project was by Legends of Rock hosting Black Sun-the band that rocks the blues, I think...
I came in where they required posters designed for the event. I was automatically transported to Poster Wars in NID- for Teams, Films and Dates.
So this is to you BLACK SUN... Spread your Darkness!!!

Planes may Fly

She told me:
I want a logo for my creation house. I am naming it 'Dreamodrome'.

The name is a rehash of what I named one of my blogs. That blog was where every dream was to be born, nurtured and would take flight from. Sometimes, even crash land.
I am too fond of this name that I coined, so I want to use it.
Built this Dreamodrome for you Sandhya.
May all your dreams take you to different destinations as I know how much you love to dirty all your fingers!

Banana Banana

My idea of a game is that it should grow with the age of the players. Game of cards, Pictionary, Scrabble are games that have cut cross the age barrier.

I got a chance to design a game in a special course this year.

The game is called – Banana Banana. It is a game is based on the Karadai Tale --Monkeys go Fasting. http://dimdima.com/khazana/stories/showstory.asp?q_cat=Indian+Folk+Tales

The game is a stacking game based on patience, chance and a certain amount of skill in balancing and maintaining center of gravity.

In the tale it so happens that the monkeys cannot complete their fast due to lack of patience and real interest in fasting.
It is a five-player game and each player has to build a banana with the blocks provided according to the dice/ cards.
The aim of the game is to keep the banana growing and standing until someone elses topples down.

This game is that it has 4 games (2 dice based, 2 card based which fall into memory and chance games). The specialty of the game is that-- the blocks and dice being versatile, more games could be devised by the players and rules could be made up to play new games. In this way the game becomes more dynamic and keeps re-inventing itself.

The game is to involve more family and social interaction compared to the time we spend alone or in
our virtual worlds.

Currently, I am designing the packaging and manual for the same which is going ahead at snails' pace. :(

Updated Status- the package is done. Have a look here.

We are just in a habit of complicating the simplest things in life and getting worked up about it.
